The Design Mechanics’ Creative Director, Dave Pannell, was guest lecturer for the morning at the newly-opened Leeds West Academy school. Dave ran a workshop for year 8 students on the (sometimes scary!) psychology behind design and advertising as part of their Integrated Curriculum Enrichment (ICE) week.
The ICE week involves the students taking part in a range of activities aimed at promoting healthy living. Following this they are producing a newsletter that will be sent to thousands of homes promoting healthy living in the community surrounding the school.
School representative James Rand said “Dave kicked off the project really well, and it’s massively valuable to get people of Dave’s experience and calibre in front of the students. I think a lot of them were shocked to discover just how much their daily actions were influenced by advertising, and are now turning some of these methods to promoting healthy living – the class were still beavering away conscientiously long after the home-time bell went.”

Design and print to a pricelist
The Design Mechanics launched in 2006 following the merger of two Huddersfield-based creative agencies. Having gained over 1,000 clients in West Yorkshire in the last 5 years, we are the first design company to work to a full pricelist for everything we do.
The company is built on the three "Design Mechanics" pillars: Honesty, Value and Ease of Use. We apply this philosophy to all parts of our business - from how we come to our prices through to how we structure our service.
We are always challenging ourselves as a business, and embrace new technologies and ways of working to enable us to deliver a fantastic value service to our clients. To achieve this we have invested over £60,000 into developing our own internal workflow system, Ninian, that is the backbone of our company.
