Welcome to our blog

Pictured outside the Kirkwood Hospice shop in MarsdenThe Design Mechanics have helped launch a project to create a book of poetry in support of the Kirkwood Hospice. The project is asking people to submit poems they have written to be considered for the book which will be sold to raise money for the Hospice.

The “Little Book of Poems” project is the brain-child of Jenni Smith-Wignall (pictured second from left) who has been volunteering with the Kirkwood Hospice for a number of years, and saw how poems could lift people’s spirits in the most usual ways.  A book of poems that you could carry with you could be both a comfort and a source of inspiration, especially for those going through hard times.

We are major sponsors for the project but are also looking for other local businesses to come on-board with the other local companies who are also backing the book. A company which contributes £50 will become a supporting sponsor, with their business listed in the book and their company logo and link appearing on the Little Book of Poems website.  For £500, a business can become book sponsor, meaning the company will receive a prominent acknowledgement in the book and on the website’s homepage.

You can read more about the project on the Little Book of Poems website, and more about the great work that Kirkwood Hospice do on their website.

The Design Mechanics’ Creative Director, Dave Pannell, was guest lecturer for the morning at the newly-opened Leeds West Academy school.   Dave ran a workshop for year 8 students on the (sometimes scary!) psychology behind design and advertising as part of their Integrated Curriculum Enrichment (ICE) week.
