Welcome to our blog

The Design Mechanics are pleased to welcome a third member of staff onto “Team Ninian”!

Over the past couple of years we have self-invested over £100,000 into our internal workflow system “Ninian” which places us firmly at the cutting edge of the graphic design industry.  From brief-taking and job-tracking, through to proofing, print ordering and invoicing, the inhouse-built software suite is at the centre of all our systems and how we work.

As we move onto the second phase of Ninian’s development, we welcome Michael to the Ninian dev team (pictured centre), who will work alongside our current two programmers Thomas and James.

Creative Director Dave Pannell explained “When we launched the company over 5 years ago we came to it from a business point of view – and to really achieve what we wanted meant setting up a workflow system that would be more common to a logistics company than a design agency.  As we expand and move into different territories we now have to push Ninian to the next level.  Most of the development work is “back end”, so the client won’t really see quite how much is going on behind the scenes, but we’re working on giving clients more control over how they order design and print.  This includes being able to see your project history online and being able order reprints from your back catalogue of projects with just a mouse click.”

Team Leader James Bell (pictured right) commented “It’s great to have Michael joining us, though he was previously an engineer in the armed forces so I don’t think any of us will be challenging him to a game of Call Of Duty any time soon!”

The Design Mechanics invest a lot of time in education and helping people enter the design industry.  For the past 2 months we have been joined in the studio by Liah from Colne Valley High School who has been work-shadowing the design team one afternoon a week. Liah (14) is considering a career in journalism, photography or [...]
